Making the transition –

and we’re stronger for it.

Since COVID, like everyone, we had to turn on a dime. Yet the challenges have made us stronger. We moved volunteer orientations and tutor training online. We hired a new Outreach and Communications Director to further our recruitment and awareness efforts. The best news is, many tutors and students have been able to continue their work together in a variety of ways. 

When schools closed in March, we were lucky to continue our tutoring sessions via Zoom platform until the middle of June. It was a learning curve for the both of us. Teaching online and transferring the multi-modal strategies of the lesson in addition to engaging the student was an interesting process. After our lesson was over but before we would say good-bye, I was able to meet Nancy’s puppy, the horse that lives next door and I got a tour of her home. – NM, Youth Literacy tutor

I love to be able to still have my classes during these uncertain times. Working on my English online keeps me focused and productive, while I’ m safe at home. Another plus of online classes is the flexibility we now have to meet at different days and times, since we don’t have to spend any time traveling from one place to the other. – BL, ESOL student
