Learn English
How do I become an ESOL student?
We have a simple 5-step process to become a student in our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program.
Step 1: Call Literacy Together.
Step 2: Schedule an appointment with Erin Sebelius or Irina Khasanova.
Step 3: Complete assessment testing and orientation.
Step 4: Be matched with a tutor.
Step 5: Attend tutoring sessions.
Tutoring is free and is conducted either one-on-one or in small groups. Students meet with their tutor for one two-hour session each week. Students and tutors commit to working together for at least one year. We ask that ESOL students make a donation of $25 to help cover costs of materials. However, we do have scholarships available for those who are not able to make this donation.
Our Ideal Student
An ideal student is motivated, sees the need for change, and wants help. Students’ goals can be anything from learning to speak English to passing the U.S. naturalization exam to helping their children be successful in school. Students sometimes need encouragement to make that first step toward their goal.
