How do I become an ESOL student?
- Call Literacy Together and add your name to the waiting list
- When we have a tutor for you, we’ll contact you to schedule your registration and assessment
- Attend weekly tutoring sessions for at least one year
Tutoring is free and is conducted either one-on-one or in small groups. Students meet with their tutor either online or in person for one 2-hour session or two 1-hour sessions each week. Students and tutors commit to work together for at least one year. We ask that ESOL students make a donation of $40 to help cover the cost of the books they’ll be given to keep and write in. This donation is not mandatory, however.
Our Ideal Student
An ideal student is motivated, sees the need for change, and wants help. Students’ goals can be anything from learning to speak English to passing the U.S. naturalization exam to helping their children be successful in school. Students sometimes need encouragement to make that first step toward their goal.
