ABOUT LISA SEE

Lisa See is the New York Times bestselling author of The Island of Sea Women, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Peony in Love, Shanghai Girls, China Dolls, and Dreams of Joy, which debuted at #1. She is also the author of On Gold Mountain, which tells the story of her Chinese American family’s settlement in Los Angeles. See was the recipient of the Golden Spike Award from the Chinese Historical Association of Southern California and the Historymaker’s Award from the Chinese American Museum. She was also named National Woman of the Year by the Organization of Chinese American Women.

Proceeds from the Authors for Literacy Event will benefit programs to help people of all ages reach their personal and educational goals through the power of literacy. Literacy Together provides volunteer tutors to more than 350 students and sends books to over 6,000 preschool children in Buncombe County.

ABOUT THE EVENT

The Authors for Literacy Event is the largest annual fundraiser for Literacy Together and features a presentation by a New York Times bestselling author, presentations by Literacy Together staff, board, and students, and a fun-filled live auction. Guests will enjoy a buffet of heavy hors d’oeuvres. The evening will close with a book signing managed by Malaprop’s Bookstore.

Each featured author has penned at least one New York Times bestseller, but their genres range from thriller to Southern comedy to short stories. Because of their wide-ranging readerships, each author brings a new flavor and audience to the event.

Proceeds from the Authors for Literacy Event will benefit programs to help people of all ages reach their personal and educational goals through the power of literacy. Literacy Together provides volunteer tutors to more than 300 students and sends books to over 5,000 preschool children in Buncombe County.
